Admin HUMAN RESOURCES Positions:

Human Resources Director (internal hire)

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: General Manager

Hours: 12-16 per week

Paid: Yes            

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of employee information via ADP and other systems
  • Collaborate with business units to source, develop, and retain the best talent
  • Communicate organizational values, policies, and practices with all employees
  • Create and lead all-staff trainings with OP members
  • Supervise and develop HR staff members
  • Analyze employee data to make continuous organizational improvements
  • Address all employee-relation concerns that arise promptly
  • Supervise performance management system by maintaining job descriptions and administering performance reviews semiannually
  • Work with OP members to research and develop new policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations, including EEO and OSHA

Assistant Human Resources Director (CLOSED)

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: Human Resources Manager

Responsibilities:

  • On-board and welcome new Daily staff members
  • Update and maintain all employee information and staff records
  • Organize employee files
  • Monitor staffing levels and recruit new talent when necessary
  • Help digitize and standardize HR practices

  • Deactivate and off-board employees upon termination

Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer (OPEN)

The Chief Diversity Officer at the Minnesota Daily Media is responsible for leading the organization’s diversity and inclusion commitments, including ensuring diverse representation and inclusive talent practices throughout the organization, as well as holding D&I training and meeting for employees at Daily. This position will work collaboratively across the organization to educate, engage and create momentum in relation to Daily’s diversity & inclusion culture and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Post regularly on Workplace (Tips, strategies, ways to diversify and promote inclusion in organizations)
  • Help assist and lead internal and external events (Ex: Open House or Tabling events, staff gatherings, etc.)
  • Lead Diversity meetings every other week
  • Plan a Diversity Training seminar for the staff
  • Reach out to speakers or representatives to speak on DEI

Admin FINANCE Positions:

Controller (internal hire)

Department: Finance

Reports To: General Manager

Hours: Approx. 12-15/week. Work must be performed in the office during normal business hours (9-5, M-F).

The Controller – Finance is one of five staff members who make up the finance department of the Minnesota Daily, the independent student-run campus news organization at the University of Minnesota. The finance department is responsible for the financial management and health of the entire organization and works with other departments to manage the budget, revenue, expenses, payroll, accounting, and all financial activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain company general ledger through Quickbooks
  • Supervise the creation of GL entries by accountants
  • Produce monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement)
  • Work with Controller – Budget to coordinate actual revenue/expenses reporting with budget
  • Attend monthly meetings to present a monthly report to the board of directors
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Monitor bank balances and investment account; consult with an investment adviser
  • Work with an outside accounting firm to produce annual audit, tax reports
  • Respond to inquiries from outside agencies

Qualifications:

The Accounts Payable (A/P) Accountant is one of five staff members who make up the finance department of the Minnesota Daily, the independent student-run campus news organization at the University of Minnesota. The finance department is responsible for the financial management and health of the entire organization and works with other departments to manage budget, revenue, expenses, payroll, accounting, and all financial activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and sort all invoices and statements
  • Verify accuracy of invoices
  • Make sure that all check requests and invoices are authorized for payment
  • Determine proper expense accounts to be charged
  • Prepare general ledger entry to record payments
  • Print checks; provide checks and supporting documentation to authorized persons for signature
  • Record amount of checks issued in check register; monitor balance for available funds
  • File physical check stubs and supporting documentation

Accounts Receivable Accountant (applications CLOSED)

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and sort all payments for advertising and other amounts due
  • Record payments in the ad management system, matching receipts with invoices
  • Track advertiser accounts to make sure invoices, payments and adjustments are reconciled
  • Prepare and make the bank deposit
  • Prepare general ledger entry to record non-advertising bank deposits
  • Generate month-end closing reports that record, payments and finance charges
  • Prepare and mail month-end statements; check each for accuracy and make corrections as needed
  • Monitor credit balances and process credit applications
  • Work closely with ad sales team to accelerate the collection of overdue accounts
  • Respond to and solve any billing questions from advertisers

The accounting department and the Controller are responsible for the financial management and health of the entire organization, working with other departments to manage the budget, revenue, expenses, payroll, accounting, and all financial activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Review payroll submissions for accuracy and proper approval by managers
  • Resolve any questions or discrepancies with the controller or appropriate manager
  • Enter payroll amounts in ADP payroll system and submit for processing
  • Review payment records for accuracy; enter data in spreadsheets to track payroll expenses
  • Distribute checks to employees
  • File and maintain payroll reports
  • Respond to inquiries from staff members regarding payroll questions

MN Daily ALUMNI RELATIONS Positions:

  • Collaborate with the General Manager and MDAA President to design and structure the Minnesota Daily Alumni Association Advisory Board and its functions 
  • Act as the liaison between MDAA Advisory Board and current staff

  • Facilitate MDAA mentoring and networking program with current staff
  • Create and execute alumni fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the General Manager and Fundraising Chair

  • Manage and maintain the MDAA website with current news, opportunities, and fundraising initiatives

Alumni Relations Development Specialist (applications OPEN)

The Alumni Relations Development Specialist plans two yearly donation drives for the Minnesota Daily and Minnesota Daily Alumni Association (MDAA). The Development Specialist works in conjunction with the MDAA Fundraising Chair to plan these gratuitous giving events, among other duties. The Minnesota Daily is looking for individuals that can not only fill the role but improve upon it.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the MDAA Fundraising Chair to manage all MDAA fundraising projects 
  • Research fundraising techniques within other non-profits and alumni associations 
  • Develop and execute innovative fundraising strategies in collaboration with the MDAA Fundraising Chair and the Alumni Relations Director
  • Collaborate, develop, and administer a continuous giving fundraising campaign
  • Collaborate with the MN Daily Board of Directors for the execution of the Minnesota Daily’s Give to the Max Day yearly initiative
  • Research and identify potential funding opportunities through grants and foundations

Alumni Relations Mentorship Associate (applications OPEN)

The Alumni Relations Mentorship Associate is a program coordinator for the Minnesota Daily Alumni Association’s (MDAA) yearly mentorship program. The Alumni Relations Mentorship Associate works in with the MDAA Mentorship Chair to plan the mentorship program. The Minnesota Daily is looking for individuals that can not only fill the role, but improve upon it.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the MDAA Mentorship Chair to manage all Minnesota Daily employee and alumni mentoring and networking opportunities
  • Develop and execute a mentorship program alongside the MDAA Mentorship Chair
  • Assist with the coordination of the mentorship program mentor/mentee matching process
  • Interpret, evaluate, and synthesize data regarding mentors and mentees to assess the program, provide feedback to stakeholders, and consistently improve the program
  • Collaborate with the Alumni Relations Communications Intern to market the mentorship program to alumni and employees
  • Develop additional initiatives to connect Minnesota Daily employees and alumni
  • Oversee the Daily After Dark networking event program in collaboration with the General Manager, Alumni Relations Director, MDAA Membership Chair, and MDAA Mentorship Chair

The Alumni Relations Communications Associate oversees all communications platforms for the Minnesota Daily Alumni Association (MDAA). The Alumni Relations Communications Associate will also work on communications strategy with the MDAA Advisory Board. Responsibilities:

  • Work with the MDAA Communications Chair to manage all MDAA communications
  • Create, collaborate on, and distribute the MDAA Monthly Newsletter
  • Develop and execute the promotional schedule for all MDAA events
  • Oversee all MDAA social media platforms and work with the MDAA Communications Chair to manage the social media content calendar
  • Develop and execute story ideas on a variety of topics including alumni and employee experiences, community relations, customer service, benefits, core values, etc.
  • Write, edit, and distribute various forms of internal employee, external, and alumni communication
  • Pitch and execute digital campaign ideas for development, events, or general awareness
  • Collaborate and oversee internal communications within the department
